For nearly 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America have strived to build lasting relationships between its young members and our time-honored program through fun, purposeful activities designed to develop strong character, good citizenship, and healthy personal fitness habits. Here in Wallowa County, Pack 562 continues to uphold the proud tradition of scouting with a pack consisting of more than 40 members and leaders. Through the dedication and hard work of our scouting parents and leaders, we hold several fund-raising events each year to help pay for our scout’s uniforms, books, awards and our year-end weekend camping getaway known as Cub Camp. This annual event, held at the Wallowa Lake Boy Scout Camp, is our reward to young scouts for their perseverance and hard work throughout the scouting year.

Our 97-acre campground, owned by the Blue Mountain Council for the use of scouting packs throughout the region was hit by a massive mudslide in July of 2002. The slide severely altered the hillside, destroying the dining hall and attached storage area in the process. In the time since this tragedy first occurred, a structure was generously donated to serve as a new dining hall for the campground. It has always been the aspiration of our local council to raise the necessary funds and attempt to complete construction on the dining hall.

There is still an extensive amount of work that needs to be done to the building’s foundation and to complete the interior of the hall including doors, windows, and fixtures, electrical and plumbing. The bank of the river that runs along the campground continues to be unstable, thus forcing the Blue Mountain Council to consider the possibility of having to relocate the donated dining hall structure. In the years since the slide, a shortage of available funding, our focus toward the completion of the dining hall and the overall lack of use has presented a new set of challenges for the campground. Several of the other buildings are now in need of general upkeep and/or repair. The highest priority of these other structures is the bathroom/shower facility. There is tens of thousands of dollars worth of work and restoration left to be done, and all proceeds raised by the sale of this hunting tag will be allocated solely toward the refurbishment of our camp, including our dining hall, bathroom/shower facility, other various outbuildings, reestablishing and maintaining the various trails around the camp, and other necessary landscaping projects.

Despite the problems with the camp, we continue to use the campground for our annual year-end weekend camping trip with our pack, but it is our goal to return the Wallowa Lake Boy Scout Camp to it rightful condition, because our young scouts deserve a better, more rewarding Cub Camp experience.
Cub Scout Pack 562 invites you to reward yourself with a once in a lifetime elk hunting experience:
